AI and Automation: India’s workforce to reskill, 4.7 million new tech jobs expected

A recent study suggests that the wave of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation will necessitate the reskilling and upskilling of 16.2 million workers in India over the next five years.

According to ServiceNow, a prominent American software company, the surge in emerging technologies like AI could potentially lead to the creation of approximately 4.7 million new technology-related jobs in India.

Notably, job listings in the country seeking technical skills related to the ServiceNow platform have seen a notable 39 per cent growth in the past year. Among Indian cities, Bengaluru has demonstrated the highest demand for such talent on a global scale. The study further outlines the anticipated tech talent deficit in India by 2027, highlighting the following key roles and their respective demand:

Application Developers: 75,000

Data Analysts: 70,000

Platform Owners: 65,000

Product Owners: 65,000

Implementation Engineers: 55,000

The sectors poised for significant disruption in terms of workforce automation include Manufacturing (23 per cent), Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing (22 per cent), Wholesale and Retail Trade (11.6 per cent), Transportation and Storage (8 per cent), and Construction (7.8 per cent).

Additionally, the top five tech jobs projected to see an increase in demand by 2027 are:

Software Application Developers: 75,000 (new jobs)

System Software Developers: 72,000

Data Engineers: 71,000

Data Analysts: 70,000

Data Integration Specialists: 69,000
