Adobe empowers creativity with central role for generative AI

On October 10, Adobe unveiled a series of new generative AI advancements across its core product offerings, joining the race in harnessing the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to autonomously generate content, including text and images. The company introduced three fresh AI models as part of Firefly, its generative AI imaging tool. Additionally, enhancements were made to Illustrator and Adobe Express, while Photoshop’s text-to-image capabilities were also refined.

This announcement coincided with the commencement of Adobe’s annual MAX event in Los Angeles. The move mirrors similar initiatives by tech giants like Google and Microsoft, who are swiftly incorporating generative AI into their flagship products.

Adobe’s CEO, Shantanu Narayen, noted that they view generative technology as a pivotal component of the creative process, an integral step rather than an end in itself.

Adobe introduced a range of AI models, among which was Firefly Image 2 — an updated iteration of the original Firefly AI image generator responsible for features like Photoshop’s Generative Fill. This latest model is engineered to produce higher-resolution images, showcasing intricate details like foliage, skin texture, hair, hands, and facial features when generating photorealistic human representations.

The company has announced that Firefly Image 2 is immediately available for testing through the web-based Firefly beta and will soon be integrated into Creative Cloud applications.
