Think hard, haven’t you heard such sentences being said casually: “Driving isn’t for women!” ; “What a crybaby! He’s a softy, just like a girl.”; “A man who doesn’t earn well isn’t a man.” or “Good girls don’t party in the evenings!”
Clearly, gender inequality exists in our society and often takes the veil of culture and tradition. At times, it is so deep rooted within us that it comes out through many of our unconscious actions and reflections.

Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) believes in fostering gender equality and tries its best to create a world where a person’s merit earns them respect, not their biological given. As a step forward in this direction, the Jalandhar institute recently organised an expert talk on this topic in its campus.

The students across B.Tech (CSE), BCA, MCA, MBA, B.Com and BBA batches actively participated in this session. The resource person for the talk, Ms. Randeep Kaur, a medical officer at Civil Hospital, Amritsar, skilfully explained how gender equality is the way forward to a just world. She said, “Gender equality is one of the most important points of change in the modern world. We have to realise that this gives everyone the same opportunities and rights. We all in our own little ways must seek to bring about gender equality in the environment around us. This is the way forward!”
Additionally, Ms. Kaur threw light on sexually transmitted diseases like HIV and AIDS as well as shared many ways to prevent their spread. The workshop was a success and the students not only gained in knowledge but also in awareness.
Further, Dr. Avnip Deora, Dean, School of Engineering acknowledged that every student has a role to play in promoting gender equality. Subsequently, Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director at AIMETC motivated the students saying, “Equality must considered as a basic right. It should be given to both the genders without any discrimination. Let us all work together to make our nation a gender equal society.”
