Many argue that chess is not a sport because it does not involve physical labour. Chess qualifies to be a sport for it requires all the philosophical tenets needed in any other sports. To play the game, it needs strategy, foresight and most importantly fortitude. It has all the major ingredients of a physical sport and when we come to think, even physical sports becomea mental game at the end.

Students of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park are masters when it comes to the world of black and white squares. They recently participated in the zonal level chess competition held at The Indian School, Sadiq Nagar in the Capital.
The sports teacher at the school said, “I am very happy with the performance of the students at the zonal chess championship. We provide them with facilities but it is all their efforts. I congratulate them as well as their parents as the efforts have paid off. I would also tell them to keep up with this spirit and start preparing for the next championship! “
Apeejayites enthusiastically participated in the categories of sub junior boys, junior boys and junior girls. Displaying great tactical prowess, the keen chess enthusiasts gained resounding success and won numerous laurels at the competition.

The junior girls team comprising Niyati Gupta from class IX-B, Anvi Gupta from class IX-A and Jawi Kawatra from class X-C won the first position at the event.
The junior boys team of Prajwal Prakash from class IX-D, Shlok Sinha from class X-A, Arman Ali from class IX-D, Ayaan Ali from class XI-A, and Hardik Bisht from class X-D won the third position. The sub- junior boys team did well in the early stages of the tournament and were able to progress to the quarter-finals.
