He is a student of Class XI now at Apeejay School, Nerul, who plans to make engineering his profession because of his love for Science and Math. He is humbled to be recognised for his efforts in promoting human values. His hobbies include reading fiction; some of his favourite authors are JRR Tolkien and Vikram Yadav. He also enjoys listening to and playing music. Meet Aarav Mitesh Kumar Kotecha, who was conferred with the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values.

In a candid interview, he talks about the role human values play in creating a positive environment.

How has receiving this award influenced the way you view responsibilities and leadership?

For me, human values have always been an integral part of my life. I owe this to my parents and teachers, who have always guided me by example. These values act as a beacon, helping me follow in their footsteps. As someone who has received this award, I feel a greater sense of responsibility to lead by example; to stand at the forefront and guide my peers so that they remain on the right path.

What role do human values play in creating a positive environment at school or outside?

Human values like empathy and kindness are essential in creating meaningful connections with anyone. To me, these values are something everyone should live by and incorporate into their daily lives.

Can you share an experience where kindness or empathy made a real difference?

A family friend of mine had a friend whose son was suffering from a stem cell disease. They were struggling to raise enough funds for the surgery. I was deeply moved by their courage and determination not to lose hope. From my side, I donated as much as I could to help them. It was a small gesture, but I truly believe that acts of kindness, however small, can make a big difference.

How can students contribute to building a more compassionate society?

Moral values guide us like a compass, helping us stay on the right path. In a world driven by competition, students who uphold these values can make a real difference. True growth lies in understanding others, standing by them, and offering support. I hope to do my part in building a more compassionate society.

One aspect of Dr Stya Paul that truly inspires you.

Dr Stya Paul is my role model, a visionary who endured hardships and imprisonment as a freedom fighter yet went on to build this great institute. Having studied here for 10 years, I feel deeply inspired by his values and tireless efforts.
