Samsung unveils Gauss AI model

Samsung Electronics recently launched its latest software and service updates at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) in Seoul, South Korea. Among the highlights was the introduction of Samsung Gauss, a cutting-edge generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) model designed to streamline various tasks such as composing emails, translating content, and summarising documents.

The Samsung Gauss AI tool is composed of three distinct sub-models: Gauss Language, Gauss Code and Gauss Image. The company has ambitious plans to integrate this new generative AI tool to enhance the overall consumer experience. The rollout of Samsung Gauss is expected to take place in upcoming tablets and smartphones, with the eagerly awaited Galaxy S24 slated to feature the innovative AI model.

During a keynote speech, Lee Joo-Hyung from Samsung Research’s Global AI Center noted the transformative potential of Samsung Gauss, stating that beyond simply understanding and generating language, Samsung Gauss will maximise user-device interaction, providing a more intuitive and natural user experience.

Lee went on to highlight the broader implications of this technology, anticipating that users will enjoy increased convenience and personalisation, empowering them to engage in more creative pursuits with Samsung devices.

The event also showcased additional products and advancements, including improvements in customer experience and research technologies. These encompassed data intelligence leveraging mobile Galaxy UI features, knowledge graphs, enhanced connectivity experiences for Tizen-based screen products, and the evolution of the Tizen platform.

The conference delved into crucial topics such as the opportunities and threats posed by AI on software security. Additionally, Samsung’s open-source initiatives for technological innovation were discussed over the course of the two-day event, providing a comprehensive overview of the company’s latest developments and strategic directions.
