Empowering pharmacists via self-paced e-learning course on “Rational Medicine Usage”

Dr. Anupama Diwan, Dean at School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Apeejay Stya University and Dr. Amisha Vyas along with nine B Pharma students from final-year and third-year attended the launch event of a new online self-paced E- course on “Rational Use of Medicine”. 

This course has been co-developed by the Biotechnology Research Innovation Council (BRIC), Transitional Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, and the World Health Organization (WHO) India Country Office, in collaboration with the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). 

The launch of the self-paced e-learning course marked a significant milestone in healthcare education. The inauguration ceremony was led by esteemed figures such as Dr. Montu M. Patel, President of the Pharmacy Council of India, Dr. Deependra Singh, Chairperson of PCI Education Regulation Committee, Dr. Hilda Graeve, Team Leader of Health Systems at WHO India Country Office, and Dr. Madhur Gupta, Technical Officer of Pharmaceuticals at WHO India Country Office.

The primary objective of the e-course is to raise awareness among clinical pharmacists and hospital pharmacists about the rational use of medicines. Accessible through both IOS and Android mobile apps, the course offers comprehensive information on the role, concept, and certification related to medicines, aiming to enhance the knowledge and skills of pharmacists in this critical area.

Designed as a self-paced online learning platform, the course covers various aspects of medicine usage, with a focus on promoting judicious and effective medication practices. Upon completion of the course, participants will be evaluated through examination questions, and those achieving a minimum of 75% marks will be awarded a certificate approved by the PCI.

The launch of this e-course represents a significant step forward in advancing pharmaceutical education and promoting best practices in medication management. By leveraging digital technology, THSTI and its collaborators aim to empower pharmacists with the knowledge and tools necessary to optimise patient outcomes and contribute to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.

The availability of this e-course on mobile platforms ensures accessibility and flexibility, enabling pharmacists to enhance their skills at their own pace and convenience. With accreditation from PCI, the certificate obtained upon completion of the course holds credibility and value in the pharmaceutical industry.

The launch event concluded with optimism and enthusiasm for the transformative impact this e-course is poised to make in the field of pharmacy education and healthcare delivery across India.
