The nursery class is typically the first stage in a child’s educational journey, preceding more structured elementary education. “My dependence on this school for fostering a positive learning environment and helping my child develop social, emotional, cognitive, and motor skills is well looked after,” asserts Meenakshi Choudhary, whose child Huvishka Choudhary studies in the nursery at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park.

 Excerpts from the interview

What criteria did Apeejay fulfill as an admission choice?

I have heard all good things about Apeejay from various places. Since I work with a healthcare firm, many doctor colleagues are also alumni of the same school. That is why this school topped my list as a choice for my single child. Even the infrastructure of the school is state of the art and since I reside in Malviya Nagar, proximity-wise this school fits the bill.

How is your daughter feeling at school?

She likes the school a lot. I have observed that my daughter is extremely close to her class teacher. Since she is in the nursery, it is her first-ever experience in a school-social setup. We as parents were anxious to hand over our daughter for the first time to a third person – teacher at the school. But surprisingly it turned out to be an overwhelming experience for us.

Have you observed any positive changes in your daughter?

Huvishka has been going to the school since April and since then her communication skills have improved incredibly. She has started to speak English quite well. She eagerly looks forward to going to school daily and due to that her routine habits and other lifestyle have changed for the better. She has learnt to become more punctual. Even her social interaction with other kids has improved.

How are the teachers at the school?

My baby had never gone to a play school, so we discussed this aspect with the teachers at this school beforehand. So after the first assessment, we were told by the teachers that she is a very sharp girl. I would like to also share that the teachers are extremely helpful here. There are dedicated WhatsApp groups where all the feedback related to my child is shared regularly.

What extracurricular activities does your child enjoy?

She enjoys all kinds of extracurricular activities, particularly the study blending tasks that the teachers organise at the school. My daughter will enact her teacher playfully daily after coming back from school. We also participate with her and feel happy and assured that she is learning something new at the school.

What are your dreams and aspirations for your child?

For now, we have decided to stick to Apeejay for my child and the rest of the plans also look hopeful and promising. Since our daughter is just four years old, we are just taking baby steps and enjoying the life ride alongside her. We have grand plans for our child once she grows up.

How much do you agree with the adage- that school is the second home for a child?

I am in total resonance with this maxim. My child is giving all her early hours to the school only, so all the things she is being taught by the teachers have maximum influence over her. My child specifically enjoys a lot at the school, she has made so many friends there, has become social and talkative and shares a lot of things about school with us.
