Determining the ‘suitable’ school for a child depends on various factors, including the child’s individual needs, learning style, and personal preferences, all of which were met here at Apeejay School, Nerul, shares Rajeev Kumria whose daughter Vidhina studies in class IX.

Excerpts from the interview

How did you zero down on Apeejay for admission?

My next-door neighbour’s daughter used to study at Apeejay School, Nerul. They gave me great feedback about the school’s education structure. Secondly, I received good testimonials from my family about the school too and that strengthened my decision further.

Your comments on the teachers here.

So far my interaction with the teachers here has been nice and cordial and they take care of the children well enough. Since my daughter is now in class IX, the teachers of the senior level have improved grasp on the subjects which helps students understand the concepts in a better way, which are also completely new for them.

Is the tension already building up for boards next year?

We are a family of academically high achievers, so we don’t have that kind of stress. Vidhina is a bright child and I am sure she will outshine others in all her exams. We, as parents, never pressurise our child to score a particular number in the exams, for me 88 per cent is as good as 92 per cent.

How are the extracurricular activities here?

Vidhina has always been inclined towards music, poem writing, and is an avid reader. She has participated in several events that are organised at the school regularly. She also takes advice from her teachers regarding the books she should read according to her age.

Define your parenting style.

Since I am mostly traveling, all the credit goes to my wife for taking care of our daughter so well. We believe in mentoring Vidhina, so in case she is facing any difficulty in any area of her life, we are open to discussing it with her. Besides that, we constantly try to imbibe qualities like time management allowing her to understand things on her own and do at her pace and also devoting enough time to enjoy time with her friends.

How has Apeejay influenced your daughter positively so far?

Yes, in my opinion, the school has played a big role in boosting her confidence levels. My daughter has now become such a good orator and she participates in events like public speaking and exchanging her views fearlessly. She now believes in the fact that if something has to be said, it should be said politely, respectfully, and efficiently.

How much do you believe in the adage – that school is the second home for a child?

I would like to assert that in the present situation, in this modern era school is practically the first home for a child. The reason is that a child spends most of the time at school and first ever potential of a child is primarily built in the school. And now with both parents working, school plays a huge role in the holistic growth of a child.
