Recently, Apeejay School, Noida, hosted the CBSE–Intel AI Bootcamp — an intensive two-week journey into the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The boot camp focused on real-world applications and ethical innovation. In this interview, Ritvick Jain of Class X shares his passion for coding and how a personal dilemma led him to create an AI-driven solution.

Tell us about yourself.
My hobbies are coding on my laptop and playing chess. I got interested in AI because the world is shifting toward automation. From healthcare to education, people are implementing AI in every field. I thought, why not contribute my work and learning to this field too and make a meaningful contribution.
What was your project about?
During the gifting season in May, our boot camp ran the entire month — we had Mother’s Day. I wanted to gift something special to my mother for all her hard work, but I couldn’t decide on the right gift. That confusion led to me not giving her anything, which made me feel sad. So, I decided to turn this situation into an AI project so no one else has to face what I did. That’s how my project GiftGenie was born.
Which programming tools and libraries did you use, and how did they help in building your AI model?
I used Python and some of its libraries through Anaconda and Jupyter Notebook. These were taught to us during the boot camp, and I found them very easy to use.

Do you think coding was easy for you because of your prior interest in it?
For me, coding is a very easy task. I’m familiar with HTML and Python. Of course, it may get tougher as I go deeper into it, but that’s life — everything gets tough eventually. For now, I’m enjoying it.
In what ways did the boot camp help you grow as a problem solver and ethical thinker?

The boot camp had around 15 classes. The central ideas were to build our skills as problem solvers and ethical thinkers. We discussed AI ethics, moral values, and tools like the 4W canvas. These topics were embedded in every session, from sustainable development to AI model-building using RGB colour models. The entire experience helped me develop problem-solving skills and an ethical mindset.
How do you think AI can help tackle global issues like climate change and education?
AI can analyse patterns through machine learning. It can detect trends like increases or decreases in CO₂ emissions. AI can help personalise education as well. It can be tailored to suit each student’s needs, whether someone is a topper or struggles academically. Properly coded AI can support the development of all learners.
