Scoring well in Physics requires a combination of effective study techniques, a thorough understanding of concepts, and regular practice. It is a dynamic subject with ongoing research and discoveries. Stay updated with the latest developments and breakthroughs in the field through science magazines, websites, and reputable online sources. Familiarise yourself with the syllabus prescribed by the Board or university. Pay attention to the topics and sub-topics to know what you need to study and prioritise.

According to Sanjana Chouhan, a Physics teacher at Apeejay School, Kharghar, who teaches classes X to XII, improving scores in the subject is not a one-day task; it’s an ongoing process. “Understanding the basic concepts of Physics is a must. Students should be able to connect each and every concept to the real world,” Chouhan explained.

What can students do?

1.       Application of concepts to the surroundings and visualising them is important.

2.       Practicals play an important role in concept building. A lot of learning happens during such classes.

3.       Solve and practice a variety of questions based on the topic.

4.       Self-analysis is important, such as determining which topic to focus on more.

5.       Make judicious use of available resources.

6.       Use various strategies to boost scores.

7.       Brush up on basic mathematics skills to solve problems.

8.       Work hard and stay calm.

Here are some tips to help students

Physics is based on fundamental principles and concepts. Ensure that you have a clear understanding of the basic principles before moving on to advanced topics. Seek clarification from your teacher or refer to textbooks or online resources if needed.

Organise your study material: Maintain well-organised notes, textbooks, and reference materials for each topic. Highlight important points, formulas, and derivations. This will make it easier to revise and review the material later.

Follow a study schedule. Create a study schedule that allocates sufficient time for Physics. Break down your study sessions into smaller, manageable chunks and cover different topics each day. Regularity and consistency are key.

Practice numerical problems. Physics involves a lot of numerical problem-solving. Practice solving a variety of problems from textbooks, previous exam papers, and supplementary resources. Focus on understanding the underlying concepts and apply them to solve different types of problems.

Seek help when needed. Don’t hesitate to seek help from your teacher, classmates, or online communities if you encounter difficulties. Physics can be challenging, and discussing problems or concepts with others can provide different perspectives and help clarify doubts.

Practice sample papers. This is especially true for students who will be taking the Board exam – X and XII – in 2024. Students must familiarise themselves with the format and types of questions asked in exams. Solve sample papers and previous years’ question papers to get an idea of the exam pattern and to improve time management skills.

Chouhan also shared a few strategies that can help students. “There are a few strategies that the students must follow. By implementing these, they can improve their chances of scoring high marks. It is also important to go beyond just studying the subject,” Chouhan said.

Score boosting strategies

·         Focus on important information in every topic.

·         Discipline is the key to keep up with regular studies.

·        Be aware of the marking schemes and latest question paper pattern.

·         In case of any doubt, seek help from teachers, books or classmates.

·         Regular uninterrupted study time is a must.

·         Be aware of the fact that marks can be deducted even for small errors of SI units and other details.

·         Prepare short notes for last minute revision.
