Locked Door

“I want to”
“Then come”
“I can’t”

There stands an open door,
5 feet away.
Here stand I, tumult in my mind,
unable to subside, even if I may.

There stands a pair of weary legs,
imploring me to follow,
and my heart feels hollow,
as I take a step forward and stay.
There stands an open door,
4 feet away.

There is a pair of longing hands,
and mine yearning to hold them,
to escape athwart that formidable door,
from where we might never remigrate
“For good” he claims.
I take a step forward and stay.
There stands an open door,
3 feet away.

There are his lips, quivering
while I stand so close, shivering.
Sanguinity in his voice,
exhorting me to make the choice.
I take a step forward and stay.
There stands an open door,
2 feet away.

There is a pair of misty hazel eyes,
in a quest of reasoning for my mendacious smiles,
beseeching me to trail to the other side
I take a step forward and stay.
There stands an open door,
1 foot away.

“I want to”
“Then come”
‘I can’t”
“Pray, tell me why and I’ll wait”
but timidity, oh! What an odious trait.
I lift my wavering foot, take 4 steps back and stay,
he turns, imputing limpid treachery, wrecked in the fray.
There stands a locked door,
5 feet away.
