Nestled in Tamil Nadu’s Dharmapuri district, Hogenakkal Waterfalls boasts a breathtaking sight as the Kaveri River cascades into multiple streams, creating a mesmerising spectacle. Just 180 km from Bangalore, this destination offers year-round water flow, with its carbonite rocks adding to its allure.

Dubbed the “Niagara Falls of India,” Hogenakkal also entices visitors with its medicinal baths. Locally known as Marikottayam, the name Hogenakkal translates to “smoking rock,” a nod to the mist created by the waterfalls. While coracle rides, freshwater fish, and traditional oil massages by locals enhance the experience, recent concerns include litter and a fish market’s odor.
Weekends can bring crowds, so plan accordingly and be mindful of environmental issues. Despite these considerations, Hogenakkal remains a perfect day trip or weekend retreat from Bangalore, offering nature’s grandeur and therapeutic waters to rejuvenate the soul.
