For Navita Jha, stepping into the corporate world through her internship was a turning point. After gaining a comprehensive experience of working on live projects at Apeejay School of Management, she went on to intern for 3.5 months at Jagran New Media.

The experience not only sharpened her HR skills but also taught her invaluable lessons about empathy, communication and professionalism.

Navita, could you brief us on the kind of work you handled during your internship?

I was responsible for resume screening, resume writing, creating job descriptions, designing hiring posters on Canva, and drafting emails to candidates — including thank you mails and rejection mails in a professional but polite manner. I was also involved in calling candidates and even got the rare opportunity to attend official HR meetings.

How did your ASM learnings help you during this internship?

In our HR course at ASM, we learned how to screen resumes, identify behavioural patterns, and select the best candidates. These concepts were directly applicable during my internship, especially when handling a large volume of applications.

What was the most valuable lesson you took away from the experience?

I learned that for HR, kindness is essential. Many people assume HRs are rude or unapproachable, but my experience showed me that empathy and politeness are what truly define HR. This, along with being confident, is something I will always carry with me.

How did the faculty and college prepare you for this internship and placements?

The faculty prepared us through interview grooming, resume-building exercises, and communication practice. That training helped me perform confidently during my internship.

Where do you see yourself next?

I am preparing for the placements starting September. My goal is to secure a good position in a reputed company where I can apply both my HR and Operations specialisations.
