The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the Senior Secondary Curriculum for the Academic Year 2024-25. This curriculum, applicable to Classes 11 and 12, is now accessible on the official website, cbseacademic.nic.in. Aimed at fostering competencies in students, the curriculum spans seven major learning areas: Languages, Humanities, Mathematics, Sciences, Skill Subjects, General Studies, and Health and Physical Education.

The curriculum is divided into elective and compulsory areas. Below is a breakdown of the subject options:

Language 1: Students can choose from Hindi Elective, Hindi Core, English Elective, or English Core.

Language 2/Subject 2: This can be any additional language or any academic elective.

Subjects 3, 4, and 5: Students must select any three compulsory electives from a pool of academic and skill subjects.

Language 3/Subject 6: Health and Physical Education or any optional elective from a range of languages, academic, and skill subjects.

Work Experience and General Studies: These are compulsory subjects, assessed internally.

Classes XI and XII are structured as a unified course. Students need to select subjects in class XI that they will continue in class XII, choosing a minimum of five subjects.

For language studies in classes XI and XII, students are required to study either Hindi or English as one of their two language subjects. They can choose between English Core (Code-301), English Elective (Code-001), Hindi Core (Code-302), or Hindi Elective (Code-002). However, it is not permissible to offer a language at both the core and elective levels.

Combination of Subjects:

Subject 1: Hindi Elective, Hindi Core, English Elective, or English Core.

Subject 2: Any one Language from Group-L not chosen as Subject 1, or any one Elective from Group-A.

Subjects 3, 4, and 5: Any three electives from Group-A or a combination of Group-A and Group-S.

Subject 6: Any additional elective or language from any subject group.

Subjects 7 to 9: Health and Physical Education, Work Experience, and General Studies, all of which are compulsory for regular candidates and are assessed internally.

The curriculum stipulates that State Boards determine which textbooks are used for regional languages in classes XI and XII. Schools must inform CBSE of any changes made by state Boards at the beginning of the school year.

Strict adherence to CBSE-mandated textbooks is required, with changes only permitted following CBSE notification. Schools are responsible for any issues arising from non-compliance with CBSE instructions.
