Co-scholastic activities are vital, as they nurture creativity, teamwork, discipline, and confidence, helping students develop life skills beyond academics while ensuring balanced growth of mind, body, and character. Meet one such student, Manjosh Singh of Class XII at Apeejay School, Kharghar. In a candid interview, he talks about how he has been playing basketball since Class III, and the game is more than a sport; it’s a lifestyle that shapes who he is.

What drew you to the sport?

Basketball has always excited me because of its rapid pace and the teamwork it demands. I love the energy of the game and the strategic style of play where every move matters.

How do you balance your academics with the sport?

I follow a schedule where I dedicate time to both practice and studies. In fact, basketball has improved my focus and time management, which helps me perform better academically.

What skills do you think basketball has helped you develop off the court?

The game has given me invaluable qualities like leadership, discipline, and resilience. It has taught me to manage my time wisely, stay calm under pressure, and always bounce back from setbacks.

Share a memorable match or moment from your basketball journey.

My most memorable moment was scoring the game-winner in a men’s national-level invitation match with just 8 seconds left. That moment still motivates me every time I step on the court.

How do you prepare mentally and physically before a big game?

I warm up thoroughly and clear my mind by visualising plays. I focus on discipline, teamwork, and staying confident under pressure, which helps me perform at my best.

What have you learnt about teamwork through the sport?

Teamwork is about trust and communication. I’ve learnt that success comes when every player supports the other and puts the team above personal glory.

What advice would you give to other students who want to take up basketball?

Stay consistent with practice, focus on fitness, and be patient with your progress. Love the game, work hard daily, and never get discouraged by setbacks.

How do the school and teachers support you?

My teachers and school support me by adjusting schedules during tournaments, motivating me, and providing facilities and guidance. Their encouragement allows me to give my best on and off the court.
