‘Join finance if you have both the interest and educational qualification in this field’
Alumnus of Apeejay School of Management (ASM) Nihal Rajput says he is content that he is pursuing his passion in life and aims to work with an international banking company
Nihal Rajput is an alumnus of Apeejay School of Management, Dwarka who pursued Post Graduate Diploma in Finance as well as Finance and Operations. After completing his course in 2022, he secured a campus placement and is currently working as a Management Trainee with Blackstone Pvt. Ltd. In an informal interview, Rajput tells us how an educational background in commerce is a must for those wishing to enter the finance industry. Edited excerpts:
What does a day at the office look like?
I am working in the treasury team and my work involves booking some wires and doing some payments on behalf of the company. It is a lovely job for me. I am very happy. At the moment, my organisation is following the working from home model. It helps me maintain a good work life balance. That is key, I feel.
What inspired you to join the world of finance?
This was my passion and I always wanted to join the world of finance. I have a commerce background; I studied B Com Honours from IEC University in Himachal Pradesh. So, this was my field of interest. I am doing well in this field and am very content.
What are your best memories from the ASM days?
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, my batch could not experience a regular campus life at the college. But nevertheless, the few visits to the campus were beautiful. I had secured a pre-placement from the campus itself, and I had to join the organisation early. But the few visits to the campus and interactions with friends were very good. The education, though mostly in the online mode, was very well-managed. It had a properly focused approach.
One piece of advice for students who wish to make a career in finance?
Join this field only if you have an interest and an educational background. Otherwise, it will become very tough.
What are your future targets?
I want to progress in my current company in the short run of things. In the longer run, I want to work with the foreign banking companies. That’s my aim.
