It has taken centuries for man to realise that he has been hurting the truly visible God in the name of modernity and development.  It is in nature that the divine absolutely dwells. For nature is the divine force that sustains and nourishes man. Sans nature, even a breath of life is a rare occurrence.

Since the last decade, environmental consciousness and activism have been rapidly gaining followers. People are coming together both individually as well as at a social level to do their bit to safeguard the planet they live in. Many challenges plague the planet but deforestation is a primary threat. The loss of green cover is not just a direct catalyst to global warming, but also the key leading to many other environmental hazards. It is therefore critical that tree plantation drives be organised so that people become aware about the issue at hand.

When it comes to doing their bit for the planet and educating the children about the importance of environmental conservation, Apeejay School, Faridabad, Sector -15 is never behind. In association with Rotary Club of Faridabad, the school recently organised a tree plantation drive. It was a collaborative effort as Apeejay students joined hands with the students of Girls Senior Secondary School -NIT-5, Faridabad to save the planet from deforestation.

In this combined effort, the students planted an incredible 100 saplings around the campus of the Government Girls Senior Secondary School. Speaking about the tree plantation drive, class 8 student Ahana Chugh said, “The tree plantation drive was an excellent opportunity for me to connect with the community and also with the environment . It gave me a sense of bonding with nature and also taught me the value of such a life saving entity.”

Officiating Principal Ms. Anita Yadav and Headmistress Ms. Ritu Kanwar from Apeejay School, Faridabad, accompanied the students and encouraged them in their drive towards creating a more healthy planet.

Through such steps, the school was successful in fostering a strong mental connection in the students with the environment. Students realised the importance of environmental conservation and the activity encouraged them to take collective actions towards afforestation and spreading awareness about the same.

“Tell me and I will forget. Teach me and I will remember. Involve me and I will learn. Nature is a tool to get children to experience not just the wider world but also themselves. The Tree Plantation Drive provided a platform to teach our students to contribute towards saving the environment.”
