Abhirupa, a final-year B.Tech student specialising in Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) Jalandhar, has successfully secured a Data Scientist Intern position at Vibrantick Infotech Solutions. Passionate about data, analytics, and emerging technologies, she has spent four years building strong technical and professional skills. In this interview, Abhirupa shares her placement journey, preparation strategies, faculty support, and aspirations of becoming an AI and Machine Learning specialist. Read edited excerpts:

How do you feel about receiving the placement offer? What position have you been offered?

Honestly, it feels surreal and deeply satisfying. I’ve been offered the role of Data Scientist Intern at Vibrantick Infotech Solutions, and I couldn’t be more excited. It feels as if all my efforts have finally paid off. I’m grateful to my college, my faculty, and my family for supporting me through this journey. This is just the beginning, and I’m really looking forward to contributing meaningfully in my new role.

How did you prepare for your placements?

My preparation was multi-layered. I started by strengthening my core skills in Python, SQL, and data visualisation tools like Power BI and Tableau. I worked on real-world data analytics projects that helped me build a portfolio. I also practised aptitude tests and logical reasoning regularly, and participated in multiple mock interviews that were organised by my college to build confidence.

How did your teachers at Apeejay help you during the placement process?

My teachers were pillars of support throughout. They didn’t just teach us syllabus content — they went out of their way to conduct mock interviews, give us resume feedback, and share insights about what companies actually look for. Whenever I felt stuck or nervous, faculty members would take time out to guide me personally. The kind of mentorship I received at AIMETC is something I genuinely value and will carry forward.

Tips to crack job interview

A few things that really worked for me were, first, know your resume inside out, because every line on it is fair game. Second, practice explaining your projects clearly and confidently, especially the impact of what you built. Third, don’t neglect aptitude and logical reasoning. Fourth, research the company before the interview; it shows genuine interest. And finally, stay calm. Nervousness is natural, but interviewers appreciate composure and clarity over perfection.

Your future aspirations

In the near term, I want to get hands-on experience with real business data problems, and keep sharpening my skills in machine learning and advanced analytics. Long-term, I aspire to grow into an AI/ML specialist who drives meaningful business decisions through data.
