The Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar, organised an industrial visit to Coder Roots, Mohali for B.Tech and BCA students to provide practical exposure to emerging technologies such as Cyber Security and the Internet of Things (IoT). The visit offered students an opportunity to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world technological applications.
The industrial visit was designed to familiarise students with current industry practices and technological innovations transforming various sectors. During the visit, students participated in interactive sessions conducted by industry experts who shared insights into the functioning and growing relevance of IoT and cyber security in today’s digital ecosystem.
The session on the Internet of Things (IoT) introduced students to the working principles behind smart devices and connected systems. Experts explained how IoT devices operate through a combination of sensors, microcontrollers, and internet connectivity. Students learned how these components work together to collect and transmit data, enabling automation and smart decision-making.

To make the learning experience more engaging, the experts also highlighted real-world applications of IoT across various fields. Students explored examples such as smart homes that allow remote control of appliances, smart agriculture systems that monitor soil and weather conditions, healthcare devices that track patient health data, and industrial automation technologies that improve efficiency in manufacturing processes. These examples helped students understand how IoT is rapidly transforming industries and creating new technological possibilities.
Another important segment of the visit focused on Cyber Security, an area of growing importance in the digital era. During this session, students were introduced to common cyber threats such as phishing, malware attacks, and network breaches. The experts explained how these threats can compromise digital systems and emphasised the need for robust security practices.

Students were also introduced to preventive measures used to protect digital infrastructure, including encryption techniques, secure network protocols, and ethical hacking practices. Demonstrations of tools used in penetration testing provided students with a practical understanding of how security professionals identify vulnerabilities in systems and strengthen cyber defences. The session particularly emphasised the importance of protecting IoT devices, which are often susceptible to cyber attacks due to their connectivity and data-sharing capabilities.
A major highlight of the visit was the demonstration of IoT-enabled drones. Students observed the structural design of drones, their flight control mechanisms, and the process of real-time data transmission. The demonstration also shed light on potential cyber security risks associated with drone technology, such as signal jamming and GPS spoofing. Experts explained how these threats can affect drone operations and discussed the security measures used to mitigate such risks.

The industrial visit proved to be a valuable and enriching learning experience for the students. It not only enhanced their technical knowledge but also provided practical insights into the real-world applications of emerging technologies.
The visit was coordinated by Mr. Amarpreet Singh and Mr. Vikas Kumar, who guided the students throughout the programme and ensured that they gained maximum benefit from the industry interaction. Overall, the initiative helped students develop a deeper understanding of modern technological trends while preparing them for future careers in the rapidly evolving digital industry.
