At Apeejay School, Model Town, learning Mathematics took a creative and interactive turn when students of Class VII-C engaged in a hands-on Math Lab activity. The session was designed to reinforce the concepts of addition and subtraction of integers, often considered tricky by many students. But this time, it was all about having fun with numbers!

The activity revolved around a specially designed Integer Board Game. Students were excited to participate as they took turns rolling a dice and moving their counters across the game board. What made the experience stand out was that the board was marked with both positive and negative integers.

Every roll of the dice became a moment of curiosity and excitement. The students had to calculate the result of an addition or subtraction operation based on the number they rolled. They then updated their positions accordingly, moving forward or backwards on the number line.

This active involvement ensured that they were not just learning the rules of integer operations but applying them in real-time, in a fun and meaningful way.

Guidance that inspires

The entire activity was conducted under the expert guidance of the Math tutor, who played a vital role in simplifying concepts and encouraging participation. With clear instructions and continuous support, the teacher made sure every student understood the rules of the game and the logic behind each move.

The activity also sparked discussions among students, where they shared strategies and helped each other. This peer learning added to the spirit of collaboration and made the class lively and engaging.

Benefits beyond the board

Beyond understanding integer operations, the activity aimed to build confidence in students. It helped in improving logical thinking, mental math, and decision-making skills. More importantly, it made students realise that Mathematics is not just about solving sums on paper but can be enjoyed through games and practical exercises.

By stepping away from textbooks and stepping into a game-based setup, students were able to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

The Math Lab activity proved to be a successful example of how interactive teaching methods can create a positive impact. The use of the Integer Board Game turned a complex topic into an enjoyable experience, encouraging active learning and better retention.

The event reflects Apeejay School, Model Town’s continued commitment to innovative teaching practices that make learning joyful and effective. It was indeed a day of numbers, laughter, and learning!
