Some people heal with words, some with art, and some with science. Anchal Wason, an alumna of Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, blends all three. A dedicated doctor currently pursuing her Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Paediatrics, she finds joy in both medicine and painting—two forms of art that, in their own ways, bring colour to life. In this candid conversation, she reflects on her journey, her love for working with children, and how her school played a vital role in shaping her path. Read edited excerpts:
I’m currently pursuing my MD at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot. I am specialising in Paediatrics.

My uncle is a doctor, and he was a big inspiration for me. His dedication to medicine influenced me to pursue this path.
I was always inclined toward a medical, non-surgical branch. Initially, I considered internal medicine, but during my internship, I realised how much I enjoyed interacting with children. That’s when I knew paediatrics was the right choice for me.
I joined Apeejay Rama Mandi in the senior secondary years. I was an average student, but the school environment was highly motivating. I was surrounded by exceptionally bright peers, which pushed me to work harder. My teachers were incredibly supportive, and while I loved biology and chemistry, physics was a challenge. However, my teachers helped me improve and gain confidence. My teachers were instrumental in shaping my academic foundation and encouraging me to push my limits.
I wasn’t into sports, but I loved painting. I actively participated in competitions like rangoli-making and painting contests. In fact, I would often secure the first position in my class!
Yes, you could say that! (laughs) Both fields require patience, precision, and creativity.
Absolutely! Even if you think you’re just an average student, never underestimate your potential. I never imagined I’d pursue an MD in such a competitive field, but with consistent effort, anything is possible. Believe in yourself and keep working hard—you’ll get there!
