Mother’s Day is celebrated globally to honour mothers and mother figures for their invaluable contributions to families and society. Highlighting this day in schools is essential, fostering gratitude, empathy, and a strong community among students. At Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, a heartfelt Mother’s Day celebration recently took place, reinforcing these values.

On the morning of May 8, 2024, the school auditorium was transformed into a vibrant hub of love and celebration for the special event, attended by the mothers of students from classes I and II. The celebration commenced with a symbolic lamp-lighting by Ms Surabhi Joshi, the Principal, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the day.

Ms Joshi delivered a heartfelt address, welcoming the community and sharing reflections on the journey of childhood to adulthood, and the parallel growth of mothers who nurture their children while discovering their own evolving identities.

She highlighted these sentiments with a poignant poem that touched on the unspoken worries and deep love of a mother, resonating deeply with the audience:

“MOTHER AT SIXTY-SIX…she smiled…and smiled…and worried about me being fine, worried about running out of time. May not gush like a young stream, I am slow, yet rich with love and experiences that I gathered on my flow. While the sun will set someday and the moon leave the sky, live in the present…one day at a time, don’t worry about me, I will be fine.”

The auditorium, filled with over a hundred mothers, radiated with collective maternal strength and affection. The event further captivated the audience as students took centrestage with a dance performance, each child wearing a handmade photo card of their mother, symbolizing the cherished bond between them. The rhythmic beats of ‘Meri Maa, Pyaari Maa‘ filled the hall, eliciting tears of joy and gratitude.

Following the emotional performances, Ms Rachna Jain, the primary in-charge, took the stage. She extended a warm welcome to all and acknowledged the daily challenges and resilience required in motherhood. The celebration continued with a lively Zumba session led by Ms Sableena, where mothers and school officials joined in, adding a fun and interactive element to the day.

Parents shared enthusiastic feedback about the event. Dr Shiva, a mother of Neehiit, a student of class 1, expressed pride in the professional level of the children’s performances. Ms Minakshi Sharma, mother of Meerav Bhardwaj, a student of class II, enjoyed the precision of the children’s dance moves, noting how special it made her feel on this significant day.

“The highlight of the event was the Principal’s active participation in all the activities alongside the mothers. It’s rare to see such inclusivity,” said Ms Sreeparna, mother of Eshana Pahwa, a student in class VIII. “The entire celebration was exceptionally well-organized by the teachers. Although it was brief, it was worth attending. The students’ outstanding performances touched everyone deeply, making us all feel very special. Kudos to the school.”.

The day also featured entertaining games, including ‘passing the parcel’ for class Imothers and a blindfolded performance by Class II mothers, using surprise props that delighted the audience. The grand finale featured a captivating ramp walk by mothers from both classes, symbolizing unity and celebration. Ms Joshi herself participated in this heart-warming display, exemplifying the inclusive spirit of the event.

The celebration concluded with a harmonious rendition of the national anthem, evoking unity and pride. Mothers took the opportunity to connect, sharing laughter and capturing precious moments at the selfie photo booth. The day was filled with laughter, shared experiences, and a strong sense of community, making it a truly memorable celebration of motherhood.

Reflecting on the event, Ms Joshi remarked, “The Mother’s Day celebration was a remarkable day filled with joy and heartfelt moments. It beautifully honoured the essence of motherhood—a journey of continuous learning and unwavering love for our children.” She also noted the profound impact of music and dance in conveying emotions and strengthening connections, particularly moved by the outstanding performances of the young students.

Overall, the Mother’s Day celebration at Apeejay School was a beautifully orchestrated event, blending emotional reflections with spirited performances. It was a day of joy, laughter, and heartfelt gratitude, celebrating the boundless love and devotion of mothers in shaping the lives of their children.

This event not only celebrated the personal connections between mothers and their children but also highlighted the universal aspects of motherhood, emphasising the collective journey all mothers share. The celebration underscored the importance of recognizing and appreciating mothers not just on Mother’s Day, but every day, fostering an environment of respect and admiration that resonates within the school community and beyond.
