Manan Jain, a BBA student with Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar, has been an NDA aspirant. However, not being able to achieve this dream yet, Manan is highly inspired to share his knowledge on armed forces and NDA  and expresses them through his writings.

In fact, the BBA student has been writing since he was in school. “I got interested in writing when I got 3 prizes in a writing competition in my school.” His other hobbies include running, cooking and reading news articles. He explains that these activities not only boost his creativity but also contribute to his well-balanced lifestyle.

Let’s read his interview to know more about his writing journey and how he improves his writing skills. Read edited excerpts:

When did you start writing? What inspired you to start with a writing journey?

I have been writing for a few hours now. I still remember there was a writing competition in school and that was my first time. In fact, surprisingly I got 3 prizes and that further motivated me to write more but now writing has become a part of my life. When I came to college, our professors guided us about the Apeejay Newsroom and about the Apeejay scholar-journalist opportunity, which again was a competitive task. So the race of becoming a scholar-journalist inspires me to write more.

You have written brilliant articles for Apeejay newsroom? What inspires you to choose those topics? How do you start with writing a journal?

I was a NDA (National Defence Academy) aspirant. I try my best to clear the NDA exam but I can’t. So I have not been able to fulfill this dream yet. But my knowledge and feelings towards the army inspired me to write articles related to the army, so I started writing articles and devoted my first article to the NDA “75 Glorious year of National Defence Academy”.

Is there a particular time you prefer when writing? How about research before writing any topic?

According to me, there is no particular time to think about a topic. I keep on thinking and learning new things. But when it’s time for writing, I prefer the time of deep night when there is no sound at all and no one is there to disturb me.

A writer should never choose a topic first and do research on the same, but he should first research and shortlist topics.

What type of topics or books do you prefer reading? Any favourite author?

I personally don’t read any books but I keep on reading different kinds of articles and stories, which I think gives me a lot more knowledge.

How are you building your writing skills?

I read a lot of articles, I learn 5 new words every day, get feedback after writing and most importantly, I try to improve my grammar day by day.
