Sakshi Yadav, who is in the final leg of her graduation at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), has already got a job as a Human Resource (HR) executive at Belora Cosmetics in Gurugram. She pursued a bachelor’s degree in business administration (BBA) from ASU’s School of Management Sciences with specialisation in HR at ASU and is now in the final semester. Excited about her new journey as a professional, Sakshi credits her professors for giving her the required “industry training” to start her career.

Edited excerpts from an interview:

Why did you choose ASU to pursue BBA?

It was during the first wave of COVID-19 that I completed class XII and was looking for a good college in Gurugram that provides industrial training to students. That’s when one of my cousins told me about Apeejay Stya University (ASU) and its curriculum. I spoke to some of the professors who helped me a lot in understanding more about the course and opportunities provided by ASU. Our dean Dr Sunil Kumar Roy was also very helpful. He took my virtual interview and guided me during the admission process. I was very impressed and though I had offers from other universities, I opted for Apeejay.

How did ASU make you industry-ready?

The professors mentored me very well even when we had virtual classes for the first one-and-a-half years. As far as industry training is concerned, ASU gave me ample exposure through workshops and internships. I did two internships. In fact, it was during my recent internship at Belora Cosmetics that I landed a job based on my performance as an HR executive. I was offered the job as well as my desired salary within just two months of my six-month internship. And this was possible only because of the excellent mentorship and guidance from my professors at ASU. They supported me constantly and pushed me to take up challenges. From perfecting my resume to helping me crack interviews, they did everything possible for my growth. I am blessed to have had such great mentors.

ASU follows an interdisciplinary liberal arts curriculum. How did that benefit you?

Apart from our core subject classes, we had Computer classes where I learnt advanced MS Excel, which is helping me immensely in my current job. We were exposed to the facets of Behavioural Sciences, workshops to improve communication skills, and various educational activities which fostered my overall growth and broadened my outlook.
