Jalandhar-based college holds expert-led baking workshop

Held at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, the aim was to enhance students’ ability to potentially start their own businesses

The Department of Home Science at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) in  Jalandhar recently hosted a one-day workshop titled “The Art of Baking and Decorating Cupcakes.” The event aimed to impart practical baking skills to students, enhancing their ability to potentially start their own businesses and create employment opportunities.

The workshop featured Ms. Shreya, a renowned jewellery designer who has successfully ventured into the culinary world with her bakery, “The Cup Cake Story.” Ms. Shreya served as the keynote speaker, sharing her extensive knowledge and experience in baking and decorating cupcakes. Her dual expertise in design and baking provided a unique perspective, enriching the learning experience for all attendees.

Ms Shreya’s session covered a comprehensive range of topics related to cupcake baking and decoration. She provided detailed instructions on making vanilla cupcakes and explained the intricacies of creating American butter cream and Italian milan topping. Additionally, she demonstrated techniques for chocolate garnishing and crafting fondant flower cakes while highlighting  the importance of precision and creativity in baking.

Addressing the students, Ms. Shreya highlighted that baking is not just a skill but an art that requires immense patience and passion. Her insights aimed to inspire students to embrace baking with dedication and to view it as a potential career path. She shared personal anecdotes and professional tips, making the session both informative and engaging.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra expressed her enthusiasm for the workshop, underscoring the college’s commitment to providing students with practical knowledge and skills. “Our focus is to equip students with hands-on abilities that enable them to start their own ventures and contribute to the economy by creating jobs for others,” she stated. Dr. Dhingra’s vision aligns with the broader educational goals of Apeejay College, which emphasises skill development alongside academic learning.

Dr. Dhingra also commended Dr. Monica Anand, Head of the Department of Home Science, for organising the successful workshop. She acknowledged the department’s efforts in arranging such events that bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. Dr. Anand’s dedication to providing students with valuable learning experiences was evident in the workshop’s meticulous planning and execution.

The workshop concluded on a high note, with students expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to learn from an industry expert. Many participants noted that the session not only enhanced their baking skills but also boosted their confidence in pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors. The success of this event marks another milestone in Apeejay College’s mission to foster practical and innovative education.
