Cherished connections: The incomparable gift of siblinghood

The best gift I have ever received from my parents and God is my little brother. My little brother makes me feel complete and truly happy. When my little brother was not there, I always felt that something was missing in my life. I was actually envious of my friends who had siblings. I always wondered what joy it must be to have a sibling.

We are living in a changing world, and there is a dynamic shift in the relationship between parents and children, teachers and students, and among friends. Now, mostly, parents and teachers are our friends. They are very understanding and loving. Despite all the love and care, they cannot replace the importance of a sibling. Siblings are simply priceless.

The joy that one experiences from having a sibling is both sweet and bitter. A sibling is our constant playmate, confidant, and critic, thus the joy is sweet. It is bitter because of constant fights and arguments. But it’s good to have both, just like spicy food. Having a sibling is like having a best friend who stays with you forever. You can share your happiness, sorrows, concerns, and worries with your siblings. He/she is your best confidant who will never reveal your secrets.

The best part of having a sibling is getting emotional security. No matter what happens in the future—whether we lose wealth or health—our siblings will always be there for us. Siblings are not like weather friends who disappear when we go through challenges in life.

My younger sibling has taught me several invaluable lessons like the importance of patience, guardianship, a sense of responsibility, and guidance. I have to be a role model for my younger sibling so that he grows up to be a good human being. When he throws a tantrum, I have to be very patient. When he is left in my custody, I have to be very responsible and his guide and protector.

In short, I can say that siblings bring out the best in you. All my latent qualities are brought to the surface by my sibling. The joy of having a sibling is unparalleled in the world. There is no chance of being lonely or bored when you have a naughty sibling around you.
