The Foundational Wing of Apeejay School, Sector-15, Faridabad, organised an interactive and cheerful session of stories infused with life lessons for its young students. The session came to life when the in-house resource person, Ms Pridhi Kataria, herself dressed up as the ever-popular “Hungry Caterpillar” and transported children to a world of wonderful tales.

The activity was devised and conducted with the intent to help the children learn the importance of nutrition and hygiene in a way that they would find fun and easy to understand, without deviating from the purpose and essence of the activity. With effective vocal expression, modulation of the voice, animated role-play and storytelling in an exciting way, Ms Kataria narrated the engaging story of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” to the children.

The children were highly motivated and enjoyed taking part in the various participatory activities integrated into the session. They gave responses eagerly to various questions, mimicked the process of the caterpillar’s journey and sorted out the good food items while understanding the importance of clean habits. The story session helped in developing skills of listening and understanding, and prompted students to be actively involved.

The activity was aptly timed and coincided with the UN SDG Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, thereby bringing focus on the overall development of the young ones right from the nascent stage. Through storytelling, the young ones were acquainted with the values of a nutritious diet, good health and hygiene entertainingly.

The teachers and facilitators also notice a simultaneous display of inquiry, laughter and learning among the children. This is indicated by the successful implementation of experiential learning activities within early childhood. Finally, the children departed with cheerful smiles, rich learning and a renewed excitement to lead healthy lives.

To conclude, Apeejay School once again proved its ability to provide unique and exciting learning opportunities. This storytelling session was just one of the many projects undertaken in order to promote the arts and make learning enjoyable, memorable and tangible for each child.
