In June 2023, the number of individuals proficient in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India experienced a remarkable 14-fold increase compared to January 2016, according to a recent report from the online professional networking platform, LinkedIn.

The report reveals that India stands among the top five nations globally in terms of AI talent, sharing this distinction with Singapore, Finland, Ireland, and Canada. LinkedIn India’s Country Manager, Ashutosh Gupta, emphasised the significant recognition of the significance of AI skills within the Indian workforce.

He commented, “As AI becomes a defining force in shaping the future of work, India acknowledges the significance of human potential and the crucial role that soft skills will play in constructing a world-class workforce for the future. With influential figures among India’s top executives endorsing the power of interpersonal skills in the AI era, we are stepping into an epoch that esteems more enriching, human-focused work.”

LinkedIn’s report also pointed out that within the past year, 43 per cent of the Indian workforce has observed a rise in the integration of AI within their workplaces. This upsurge has led 60 per cent of all employees and 71 per cent of Gen Z professionals in India to realise that acquiring AI skills could substantially enhance their career prospects.
