The career prospects in animation and multimedia in the next five years are expected to be good. The demand for animation and multimedia professionals is expected to grow as the entertainment industry continues to expand, and new technologies are developed.

One major driver of growth in the animation and multimedia industry is the increasing popularity of video games and virtual reality experiences. The gaming industry has seen tremendous growth in recent years, creating new opportunities for game designers, 3D animators, and other multimedia professionals.

There is also a growing demand for multimedia professionals in the film and television industries. As more content is created for streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+, there is a need for high-quality animation, visual effects, and motion graphics.

The rise of social media platforms has also created new opportunities for animation and multimedia professionals. Brands and content creators are looking for engaging and entertaining multimedia content to share on these platforms, which has created a demand for multimedia artists, video editors, and motion graphics designers.

Avni Joshi, Assistant Professor in the School of Design and Visual Arts (SDVA) at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), said that there are several reasons why a student can pursue a program in this subject. “If we look at the past 10 years, the growth in this sector was 10-20 percent. Post-Covid, this has risen exponentially,” Joshi said.

Lalita Chuphal, CEO, Prismart Productions, a globally reputed animation studio and alumna of Apeejay Stya University said that in an era of technological advancements, animation and multimedia continue to soar as thriving industries. “With an increasing demand for captivating visual content, the future prospects of these fields look promising, driven by cutting-edge technologies and innovative storytelling. As animation techniques evolve and multimedia platforms expand, the industry is set to experience significant growth, captivating audiences worldwide,” Chuphal said.

According to a recent media and entertainment industry report by the Boston Consulting Group and Confederation of Indian Industry, the Indian animation and visual effects industry has the potential to reach 20-25 per cent by 2025 from the existing 10 per cent of the global market share.

“The best part of studying at ASU-SDVA is that besides the curriculum that has to be followed as per the guidelines set by the university, the faculty here teaches the latest technology that the market introduces to the students. There is advanced skillset learning, advanced software learning, different workshops, and events organised to keep the students abreast of the trends,” Joshi shared.

In addition, SDVA also holds lectures from industry experts, either online or offline, from time to time. “This means that the students are getting the best education they can. The best part is that there is more practical knowledge given to the students here – 70 per cent is practical and 30 per cent is theory. This ratio keeps the students engaged, entertained, and provides learning at the same time,” Joshi stated.

Joshi also said that in the four-year course in animation and multimedia, the students are required to do two internships as part of their course. “In these internships, the students are exposed to how the industry functions right from scratch. This gives them real-time exposure to this sector,” Joshi said.
