Various important activities held in school promote hands-on learning, helping students understand real-world issues like nutrition and health. They encourage critical thinking, foster curiosity, and develop research skills. By engaging students in meaningful tasks, these activities empower them to make informed choices, inspiring a lifelong commitment to healthier and more conscious living.
In a fascinating and insightful activity, the students of class V at Apeejay School, Saket, embarked on an eye-opening investigation to uncover the sugar content in popular beverages available in the market. The activity aimed to promote health awareness and equip young minds with the knowledge to make informed dietary choices.
The event began with an engaging introduction by the teachers, who explained the importance of understanding the nutritional value of food and beverages. Armed with enthusiasm and curiosity, the students collected samples of widely consumed drinks, including fruit juices, sodas, and energy drinks. Using simple yet effective techniques, they measured the sugar content in each drink, documenting their findings meticulously.
To amplify the impact of their research, the students designed creative and visually striking posters. These posters showcased the surprising and often alarming amount of sugar hidden in these seemingly innocent beverages. The colourful displays, combined with compelling facts, served as a wake-up call for their peers, teachers, and parents.
“Children need to think out of the box. Design thinking is the key to success. Keep the good work going,” Dr Sujeet Eric Masih, Principal of the school, shared.
The activity culminated in an interactive presentation where students shared their findings with classmates and teachers. They discussed the adverse effects of excessive sugar consumption on health, including obesity, diabetes, and dental issues. The young researchers also suggested healthier alternatives, such as fresh fruit juices, infused water, and herbal teas.
This initiative not only deepened the students’ understanding of nutrition but also encouraged them to adopt healthier habits and inspire others to do the same. It was heartening to see the budding scientists exhibit confidence and a sense of responsibility toward their well-being.
By fostering such practical learning experiences, Apeejay School, Saket, continues to empower its students to make educated choices and lead healthier lives. The activity reinforced the message: Sugar isn’t healthy; consume less! — a valuable lesson for all.
This hands-on investigation proved to be an enriching and enlightening experience, leaving an indelible impression on the young minds and their community.
