Young learners spread their wings

Little wings, big lessons; a celebration of birds at Apeejay School, Pitampura

Learning about birds can begin with something as simple as watching how they move, noticing their colours and understanding why they need freedom. At Apeejay School, Pitampura, this idea took shape through a birds-themed presentation by nursery and kindergarten students. The event brought together dance, creative expression and a message about treating birds with care.

For the youngest children, the theme offered a way to explore the natural world through movement and performance. The campus was filled with colour and cheer as the children presented different interpretations of the theme.

The nursery students performed Birdy and Penguin Dance – Flap Flap. Their act featured fluttering movements, playful hops and smiles, capturing the ways birds move in a form that young children could express on stage. It was a simple performance built around the joy of movement and imagination.

Kindergarten students took the theme further with Flock Parade – Wings of Freedom. They portrayed a variety of birds, including peacocks, parrots, cuckoos, macaws, pigeons, doves and swans.

Through their portrayals, the children brought attention to the variety found among birds. Each bird offered a different form, colour or movement for the students to represent.

Beyond the performances, the event carried a message about the freedom and protection of birds. Children were encouraged to think of birds as living creatures that deserve love and care, rather than being kept in cages. The message was direct: birds should be allowed to fly freely.

The theme also linked an enjoyable school activity with an early lesson in kindness towards animals. Dance and role-play gave the children an accessible way to engage with that idea without losing the fun of taking part.

The occasion was an opportunity to express themselves through movement and explore the importance of respecting the natural world.
