The Art of Man-Making: ‘Be honest with yourself, it will make you a better person’

Holding integrity, benevolence, and morality are major aspects of human values. Some people have these instilled in them while some yearn to learn those values. Therefore, Apeejay Education is committed to the holistic development of students and ensures that they become ethical human beings with the highest standards of honesty, humility, and integrity. The students who personify and exhibit these values in their daily lives are awarded the prestigious and coveted Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values.

One such recipient is Subhronil Chattoraj, a student of Class XII. In an impromptu interview, he gives us great insights into how important it is to abide by human values if you want to be successful.

Tell us about yourself.

I am extremely outspoken and love to explore new things. I am pursuing Science and have taken Economics as an additional subject. I am preparing for the upcoming JEE Mains to be held in 2024.

How did you feel after receiving this award?

I was ecstatic and shocked. It would be difficult to narrate how I was feeling at the time of receiving this award. I was called by my academic coordinator who gave me this brilliant news and I was on cloud nine.

Were you nominated for the very first time for this award?

I was nominated for Dr.Stya Paul’s Award for Human Values last year as well but unfortunately, I could not make it after the first round. This year, I was nominated for the same again, and luckily I was able to nail it. Hence, this award means the world to me.

In what ways have human values shaped you?

These values have shaped me personally as well as academically. It has enhanced my leadership skills. I was appointed as the house captain this year and that gave me more motivation. Receiving this award has convinced me that I can take up every responsibility and deliver them diligently. 

What makes these awards so special?

It is a great step ahead to enable a student to strive for excellence in terms of human values and the way they have been raised. This way students can show exemplary values towards the school as well the society which will help in the betterment of the nation. 

Which is the most essential human value according to you?

Being true to yourself. If you pretend to be someone else, you will not be able to have a personality of your own. You will be living the life of other’s expectations and standards. Accept your flaws, and strengths and work toward achieving what you desire.

What is that one thing you would like to imbibe that reflects the essence of Dr Stya Paul?

Dr. Stya Paul was a philanthropist. He worked for the welfare of others and I wish to become somewhat like him. I want to help others so that all of us can walk the path of progress.

How did your teachers help you grasp human values?

Their trust in me made it possible to imbibe and uphold the human values I possess. If a teacher is good, then the development of the student is on the right path. The same is true for me.
