Style your confidence: Fashion’s true essence transcends labels

Fashion stylists say that it is a myth that office wear has to be dull and drab, wear a coloured blazer and pair it with pants and shirt and you are good to go

Fashion can be made fun and easy by embracing creativity, experimenting with different styles, and finding your personal flair. Remember the first rule of thumb: Fashion is a form of self-expression, so embrace your unique taste. Take time to discover what styles, colours, and silhouettes make you feel confident and comfortable. Experiment with different fashion trends and pay attention to what resonates with you.

Social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube are filled with fashion bloggers and influencers who share their unique style and offer fashion inspiration. Find individuals whose fashion choices resonate with you and follow them for inspiration and tips.

Neha Arora, a fashion blogger and influencer, who is the mother of a student at Apeejay School, Pitampura, advises having fun with colours. “Don’t be afraid to play with colours. Incorporate vibrant shades. They can bring joy and excitement to your outfits, making fashion more enjoyable. There is no rule that says office wear can’t be fun and easy and yet be formal,” Arora said.

“Choose fabric according to the season – summer is all about easy and breezy. Workplace outfits should always be comfortable since people are there for long hours and have to be on their toes”

A person can style office wear in several different ways. For ladies, wear a pair of nice pants/jeans and a dressy top. “For men, wear nice pants/trousers with a shirt. Choose fabric according to the season – summer is all about easy and breezy. Workplace outfits should always be comfortable since people are there for long hours and have to be on their toes,” Arora opined.

One also has to keep in mind that fashion that is fun and easy is not just for GenZ. “There are a lot of people who want to be in vogue and are passionate about dressing. It all depends on an individual’s taste and preference. Others are simple and introverted and dress accordingly. So fashion resonates with the personality of the person,” Arora said.

Make your style statement

Being trendy doesn’t always involve wearing labels and brands. “Fashion doesn’t translate into wearing high-end brands and showcasing them. To truly be called a fashionista, people around you should like what you are wearing and not think, ‘Oh my God, what is this person wearing!’ Even though you dress for your comfort, people should also like what you are wearing and follow your style,” Arora said and shared some colors that are evergreen – in the red family, magenta and pink are always in vogue. White and black never go out of fashion.

“A fun and easy outfit for a Sunday brunch can be a pleated skirt with a shirt where one is a solid color and the other can be a print, paired with stilettos and a handbag that are of the same color,” Arora suggested.

What are fun styles?

These can be achieved by adding an element to your outfit, be it a jewelry piece or a dramatic print or any layers to your outfit. “One should be confident in what they’re wearing, and if they are confident, they’ll surely look good,” Aarushi Dawar, an alumna of Apeejay Stya University-School of Design & Visual Arts and a fashion stylist at Clicker Studios, said.

Like Arora, Dawar also said that office wear can be fun and easy. “There are so many people who style office wear as fun. One classic example can be to ditch your old-school neutral-colored blazers and shift to some pastel-coloured blazers. They work well with both jeans and tops and also with nice trousers and shirts,” she advised.

She also said that when we hear the word ‘professional,’ we usually think of men and women in blazers. “This perception can be changed, especially for men who can wear chinos paired with some striped shirts. Chinos go well with everything, be it shirts, T-shirts, or even blazers. Also, a common concern for women is – ‘I have nothing to wear.’ A very simple outfit can be a white T-shirt with wide-legged jeans and a nice pair of white sneakers. Wear gold jewelry – hoops, bracelets, or a good wristwatch, and you’re ready to go. A word of caution: Make sure to tuck in the top; tucked-out shirts and wide-legged jeans are a strict no-no,” Dawar said.

Style for the summer of 2023

“For men, I would suggest printed shirts, co-ord sets, and cargo pants, whereas for women, maxi skirts, floral prints, parachute pants, and raffia bags are on trend,” Dawar concluded.
