Apeejay School International (ASI), South Delhi, recently celebrated Mother’s Day with great fervour. Students from the Primary Year Programme (PYP) — nursery to grade 5  —   were exhilarated about putting up beautiful performances for their mothers.

Students made a brilliant showcase of their talent through dance, music, speeches, and more, to show their love, respect, and gratitude toward their mothers.

For the occasion, the school auditorium was exquisitely adorned to welcome the guests. Students waited at the entrance to formally greet their mothers and escort them inside the auditorium. The programme began with a heartwarming video that compiled photographs of special moments shared between the mothers and their children. It left each one in the room quite emotional.

To mark the beginning of the cultural event, students from nursery, reception, and grades 1 and 2, performed a melodious song. They also presented two mesmerising dance performances. Each of the performances was proof of their high levels of confidence and skill.

Jennaira, a student from grade 2 took the stage to give a compelling speech on behalf of all students, expressing affection for mothers and thanking them for their unconditional love. Two other students, brothers Neal and Vivaan, captivated the audience by playing the guitar. Talented children from PYP 4 also put up a comedy act.

The highlight of the celebration was the much-awaited ramp walk. Enthusiastic moms, donning their best attire, walked the ramp with utmost confidence and grace. Later, the students gathered in their respective classrooms with their mothers and collaborated to make colourful crafts. The learners were tasked with recalling facts about their mothers and incorporating them into their lovely cards or paper crafts as presents.

The programme ended with a serving of refreshments and a heartfelt vote of thanks was extended to all the super moms.

Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1907 when Anna Jarvis in the US held the first Mother’s Day service of worship at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church, West Virginia. She began her campaign to recognise Mother’s Day as a holiday in 1905.

Mother’s Day in India was celebrated on May 14 this year. The day honours motherhood, maternal bonds and the contributions of mothers in society. It is celebrated every year on the second Sunday in the month of May. However, in other parts of the world, it is celebrated on different days.
