Mumbai schools asked to give 15% fee reduction details

While summer break has commenced for schools in Mumbai, they have been asked to submit details on the 15% fee reduction given to students in the academic year 2021-2022.

Last year, in the month of August, the state had issued a government resolution asking schools to reduce their fees by 15%. This was done keeping in mind the uncertainties brought by the Covid-19 pandemic for students and parents. However, several parent bodies did not abide by the revised fee structure and called the order ‘a sham.’

Since then, there have been complaints about schools withholding the progress reports of students due to non-payment of fees. Schools are now finding it difficult to recover the 15% cut from parents in the new academic session.

Given the situation, they may decide on a fee hike in the upcoming month of June.
