About MS Dhoni

Born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, M.S. Dhoni is a former international cricketer who captained the Indian National Team. His tactical wicket-keeping and, of course, batting skills make him a true legend of the game. He is widely known for his composure in pressure situations.

Debut and Captaincy

He started his ODI career on December 23, 2004, against The Tigers (Bangladesh). He played his first Test a year later against the Lions (Sri Lanka). He is also considered a legendary captain, who has won all three major ICC limited-over Tournaments (Inaugural ICC World T20, 2011 Cricket World Cup, and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy).

He also brought the Indian cricket team to the number-one position in the ICC test rankings in 2009. He captained the Indian Test Team from 2008-2014 and in the limited-over format from 2007-2017. He captains the IPL team CSK and has led them to the title six times.

Some additional records

  • He has played the most international matches as captain (332).
  • Dhoni is the only captain to lead an international team in 50 or more matches in each format.
  • Dhoni won 110 ODI matches as a captain, which is the second-most by any player.
  • Dhoni holds the record for playing the most T20I innings (76) and scoring the most runs (1,153) before scoring a fifty.
