Janvi Sharma, a class VIII student at Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, is a poetic prodigy whose compositions have won the admiration of her peers and teachers alike. Known for her ability to draw inspiration from everyday experiences and overlooked objects, Janvi’s work carries a depth far beyond her years. In an exclusive conversation, her mother, Mrs Richa Sharma, reflects on her daughter’s poetic journey, growth, and the support she receives from the school.
How did Janvi’s poetic journey begin, and what do you feel about her progress?
I feel so proud of her growth as a poet. The teachers at Apeejay School have brought out her creative side in such a remarkable way. She amazes me with her deep thoughts at such a young age. When her grandparents passed away, she wrote a poem titled Bhagwan Ke Dakiye’(Messengers of God), and it touched everyone deeply. It’s entirely her talent — many people assume we, as parents, help her, but it’s all her own.
Her poems often explore unique and diverse topics. How does that reflect her perspective?
Her perspective is truly one-of-a-kind. She sees ordinary objects and places in a way that makes me wonder why I never noticed them like that before. It’s amazing how she transforms simple ideas into profound thoughts. The school and the Apeejay Newsroom team have played a huge role in this. Every time her poem gets published, it’s a massive boost to her confidence. I’ve seen her poetry mature significantly over the past two to three years, and it’s a joy to watch her evolve.

What kind of support does the school provide for her talent?
The teachers are incredibly supportive. They encourage her every step of the way, and their attention to individual potential is commendable. We feel so happy knowing that enrolling her in Apeejay School, Tanda Road was the right choice. The school doesn’t just focus on academics; it nurtures every child holistically, and Janvi has benefited immensely from that.
Is Janvi interested in other activities like sports or dance?
She isn’t too inclined towards sports, but the school ensures she understands its importance. She plays kho-kho sometimes and learns that there’s so much to gain outside the classroom. She also loves dancing and is excited to perform at the upcoming annual day. Janvi’s favourite subject is English, and her love for learning new words and enriching her vocabulary shines through in her poetry.
