Janmashtami, a jubilant celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth, resonated with fervour throughout the nation. It is believed that on this auspicious day, Lord Vishnu incarnated in the divine form of Lord Krishna. The historical narrative surrounding Krishna’s birth lends depth and significance to this revered Hindu festival. Born at the stroke of midnight on the eighth day of the Shravana lunar month, Krishna’s arrival is etched in the annals of time.

The tale of Krishna’s divine birth echoes through temple halls and private abodes alike, serving as a testament to the celestial potency of the Lord. Devotees, each year, raise their voices in reverent songs dedicated to his glory. Cities across India transform into a trance-like state, with the faithful making nocturnal pilgrimages to temples, their hands clasped in devotion, heads bowed before the resplendent idol of Krishna, a beacon of unwavering faith.

As the air is adorned with the fragrant embrace of blossoms, mingling with the soothing aroma of burning camphor, children are often encouraged to participate in this holy festival. Why is that? So that they learn goodwill and understand the importance of unity and faith.

The students of class III at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi in Jalandhar, embarked on a vibrant celebration of Krishna Janmashtami this year. A meticulously orchestrated special assembly in the school, conceived by the dedicated class teacher Ms Nidhi Sharma, infused the auditorium with a palpable sense of divinity. The young participants adorned themselves splendidly, depicting various iconic personas such as Krishna, Radha, Krishna’s friends, and gopis.

The stage was transformed into a resplendent tableau, featuring Krishna’s ornate swing, cradling the cherished idol of His infancy. A meticulously designed backdrop, complemented by a profusion of balloons, further enhanced the visual grandeur of the setting. The rendition of the soul-stirring bhajan, ‘Achyutam Keshavam Krishna Damodaram,’ by the students of classes I, II, and III, resounded through the entire auditorium, creating an atmosphere of profound spirituality. The divine strains of ‘Hare Krishna Hare Rama’ further elevated the ambiance.

A poignant play unfolded, narrating the seminal life events of Krishna, with a focused emphasis on his teachings and philosophical messages. The students executed a nuanced portrayal of his incarnate existence, weaving together poignant poems and a compelling short play, encapsulating the quintessence of his life. The graceful dance performances, set to an array of Krishna-inspired melodies, held the entire audience spellbound.

Principal of the school, Mr AK Sharma, Vice-principal, Ms Aarti Shorey Bhatt, esteemed staff, and students alike, reverentially swayed the swing bearing of the Lord, seeking his benevolent blessings. The kindergarteners, resplendent as Krishna and Radha, elicited admiration with their endearing charm and captivated the onlookers.

During this auspicious occasion, Mr Sharma took a moment to address the children, expounding upon the profound significance of the day and imparting valuable insights from the life of Krishna. He underscored that this sacred festival serves as a unifying force, binding people in faith and camaraderie. His commendations extended to the students and the class III teacher, for orchestrating a seamless amalgamation of spirituality and the performing arts, resulting in a spectacular presentation.

Krishna Janmashtami stands as a testament to the cultural richness and spiritual diversity of India. This revered festival holds immense significance in the hearts of millions across the nation. By partaking in such celebrations, students are granted an invaluable opportunity to delve into the tapestry of Indian traditions, imbibing values of unity, faith, and devotion. The festival not only serves as a cultural milestone but also imparts invaluable life lessons through the teachings of Krishna, making it imperative for students to acquaint themselves with its essence.

Similarly, the pre-primary students of Apeejay School, Nerul in Navi Mumbai, commemorated Janmashtami with unmatched zeal. The event sought to not only acquaint the young minds with the essence of the festival but also to regale them with an unforgettable experience.

Setting the stage for the celebration, the children harmoniously chanted “Hathi ghoda palaki jai Kanhaiya Lal ki,” infusing the atmosphere with a reverential aura. The teachers, adeptly, expounded upon the significance of Janmashtami, unraveling the narrative behind its observance, and introduced the concept of “makkhan” (butter) in Krishna’s life. They ingeniously correlated this with the tender care babies receive in their cradles, ensuring relatability for the young learners.

The kindergarten students also showcased their musical prowess with a melodic group rendition. Two pint-sized embodiments of Radha and Krishna graced the stage, dancing with an innate grace to the enchanting strains of “Dance Shri Krishna Govinda Hare Murare,” leaving the audience spellbound. In a spirited emulation of Krishna’s mischievous demeanor, the students gleefully engaged in the Matki Phod activity, radiating the playful spirit of the occasion.

The celebrations proved to be a delightful fusion of cultural enlightenment and entertainment for all the students. It not only succeeded in imparting the importance of the festival but also provided a platform for the kids to revel in the festivities.
