One picture can do what even a thousand words can’t. And Vishesh Vij, a Class 11 student at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar, has this quality within him. Watch his sketch, where from a wall, cracks open a young girl’s face and hands separately, forcing her existence into the world. Selected as this Week’s Aspiring Artist, Vishesh speaks about his artistic philosophy, time taken roughly for an artwork and shares some interesting facts about himself.

Since when did you start drawing Vishesh?

I always knew that art was my passion. Ever since I was a little boy, I loved to draw. I have always loved playing with colours.

And which art form is the closest to your spirit ?

Portrait is my favourite art form because every portrait has its own uniqueness and beauty.

That’s wonderful to know. How does your school support you as an artist?

Well, as an Apeejayite I can proudly say that my school has always supported me in every way possible whether it’s in academics or my creative endeavours. The teachers here have always pushed me and helped me explore my talents and interests.

What is your definition of art?

As an artist, I see art as a powerful medium that allows me to communicate my thoughts, emotions, and experiences. It’s a way for me to express my creativity.

How much time does it take you to complete an artwork? What are your common ideas and themes?

It usually takes me around 5-6 hours to complete an artwork but the time varies according to the size and medium of the paintings. I don’t have a specific preference however, looking at the history of my artwork I’ve worked on the human social sphere and environment the most.

Upcoming artworks?

I’m currently working on two different paintings, one inspired by Greek mythology and the other exploring the concept of freedom of the mind.

A new artform you wish to learn?

I am really fascinated by the artform- sculpture and I’m eager to explore and learn more about it.

Other hobbies apart from art?

Apart from painting, I’m also into electronics and robotics. I love tinkering with circuits and building cool robotic creations. It’s a whole different kind of creativity.
