A report by NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) on women safety significantly crashes the mind of every individual in the world. The report reveals that over 4.45 lakh cases of crimes against women were registered in 2022 (equivalent to 51 FIRs) every hour.

The data numbers are the specifications of the records , but there are some others which have stepped out due to shame of their name and family fame. Such an irony of the Indian society – a country where Goddess Radha, Durga, to name a few are being offered prayers; where festivals are meant to respect the power of women is also seeing increasing number of rape cases.

One needs to understand that the safety of women is actually a reflecting barometer for the progress of the nation. The data reveals the concern for the growth and development of the nation in economic and financial terms.

The violence is not just any conventional concept to India. Women for decades have been facing the consequences of violence, sometimes in the form of insecurity, sometimes as domestic abuse, sometimes as a barrier to their routine life, and so on. The concern in the society for her is so harmonious that we ourselves don’t understand the difference that when from the protectors to her, we turn ourselves to her barricades.

The Indian Constitution Article 21 gives every individual a fundamental right to live with dignity, respect and prosperity. But society believes that acts don’t apply to women and instead of comprehending her difficulties, society tries to create more difficulties for her.

Thus, it’s time to raise concern for women ‘s safety from any kind of violence. If society believes her to be Durga , then society also needs to know that she is a Kali too.
