Wander and Wonder: Students celebrate the idea of tourism with much fervour    

Apeejay College of Fine Arts in Jalandhar organises a series of activities on World Tourism Day

The pleasure of venturing the world is a great feeling. Experiencing different heritages, cultures, traditions and people of various countries helps individuals to broaden their perspectives and know that the world has so much to offer. There is so much to explore about nature, wildlife, cities, forests, oceans, mountains, and so on. And so, World Tourism Day has always been marked as an important date on the calendar. On this day, every country and various organisations promote tourism so that people rediscover and explore history, luxury, heritage, cultures, places and adventure.

Aligned with this thought, the PG Department of Applied Art and Heritage Club of Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, jointly celebrated World Tourism Day. Celebrating this day, a  line of competitions were organised to engage the students while providing them a platform to explore. 

The interestingly unique competitions included: reel-making, poster-making, photography, tape a tale, treasure hunt and so on. Around 150 students from different departments of the college were divided into15 teams, who enthusiastically participated in these activities while further promoting the essence of this day.  

Further, Dr Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, expressed her thoughts and said, “Our college is a vast ocean of talented students who are proficient in various arts, and we at ACFA always ensure to provide them ample opportunities to give them the exposure and provide them with  numerous platforms where they can recognise and polish their skills.”

Students showcased exceptional performances in all the competitions.In poster-making competition, Abhishek, Jaspreet Kaur and Nishtha won the top three prizes and Chandandeep and Manish Kumar got the consolation prize. In photography, the top three prizes were won by Tarannum, Aryan Jaiswal and Jannat Sodhi, whereas Bhavneet Dhiman got the consolation prize. In the Instagram reel-making event, Urvi Goyal won the first prize, Ritika Sharma grabbed the second prize, Aditya Mehra bagged the third prize while Dheeraj Chadha got the consolation prize. In treasure hunt, the team comprising Sandeep Singh, Vishal Bharti, Mannat and Raina won the first prize, while the team including Yuvika, Sabnoor, Tanya and Asses won the second prize. Harneet, Ridhi, Radhika and Rajan’s team got the third prize.

More and more winners emerged throughout the day with Ritika, Rajat, and Tarannum bagging the top three prizes in the storytelling(tape a tale) competition. Sandeep Singh got the consolation prize.

In the end, Dr Neerja Dhingra applauded the efforts of the teachers of the Department of Applied Art and Heritage Club for making the programme a success.
