Love for healthy competition, determination and self-discipline is the mark of a sportsperson. What more? Sports teaches the spirit of coherence and progress, allowing one to push their limits.
Aiming to instil these qualities in young learners, Apeejay School International, (ASI) South Delhi celebrated its first in-person Annual Sports Meet 2022 on Saturday, March 26. The day dawned crisp and the sun shone softly, bringing with it a flurry of early morning activities as enthusiastic sports lovers gathered on ground. Amidst the fun and frolic, it was delightful to see international and Indian parents joining hands to motivate their children in various activities.
Students of the Primary and Middle Years Programme along with their parents were welcomed by the school’s principal, Mr. Purushottam Dutt Vashist.
The Primary students shortly took an oath after the welcome address by the Principal. Students then presented a pom-pom drill followed by a multi-prop drill showcasing rhythmic movements. The session included yoga asanas performed with chants from Sanskrit shlokas. Students left no stone unturned to demonstrate their stunts and skills through dance on peppy musical numbers. These were well-appreciated by the audience.
The special highlight of the event were the fun races on tracks. Students displayed their enthusiasm and vigour as their teachers and parents cheered for them. This was followed by a prize distribution ceremony in which Mrs. Ritu Mehta, Principal, Apeejay School, Sheikh Sarai awarded the medals to the winners. The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
“When you’ve got something to prove, there’s nothing greater than a challenge,” said Terry Bradshaw. ASI students indeed have something to prove when they hit the sports ground on Saturday. They proved that despite staying home for nearly two years due to Covid-19, they were determined to overcome all challenges and compete with each other to prove their mettle in outdoor events. Not only that, they toiled for weeks with their teachers to ensure that the Sports Day was a grand success. Well Done!!”
