Most parents have a long checklist when it comes to choosing the perfect school for their children. They sit for days on end to make this list after consulting their family and friends. Then they make a list of schools that fit the criteria. If this is not enough, a list of top 5 schools is made that suit the parents. And then there are some parents who have very little wants. One such couple is Sukhwinderjeet Singh and Manpreet Kaur.

“We had very little asks from a school. I wanted a school that was near our home; Apeejay School, Rama Mandi is a short drive away. Also, everyone from my husband’s side of the family is from Apeejay. Even my younger siblings are from Apeejay. So, I know what the school stands for. When it came to the admission of Manant, it was only natural that we would choose Apeejay,” Manpreet Kaur said who has a boutique.

Excerpts from an interview.

What made you choose Apeejay School, Rama Mandi?

Besides the fact that it is near to where we live, I know that there is a strong focus on academics. My brothers settled abroad and I feel that this school somewhere helped them in this regard. I knew that this school would be a great fit for my daughter.

I have a great relationship with my daughter’s teachers and have had it for the last 15 years since my brothers and sisters also studied here

How was the admission process?

It was very simple. We filled up an online form and submitted the same. We got a call from the school and we fulfilled the formalities and she joined UKG. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she didn’t go to school for very long. And the next two years were spent online learning. But now, she is back to attending regular school.

How is she doing in school?

I have another daughter and when Manant was doing online studies, I couldn’t give her too much time due to my pregnancy complications. So, she missed a bit of learning during that period. Yet, she continued to do well in her class. Now, that school has become regular, she is doing much better and has caught up with peers.

I have recently started sending her to tuition. While she is only in class I, I am unable to give her the kind of time that she requires due to my younger child. I also know that if she didn’t go for these classes, she would still do well but since the toddlers were at home studying, tuition gives her a bit of confidence and builds a strong base.

What are some of the improvements that you have noticed?

During online classes, she would get a little careless and get easily distracted by what other toddlers were doing. But in a regular class, she has to be attentive since the teacher notices everything. I am happy that she is going to school now since I had a lot of issues with online classes.

Do you get regular feedback from the teachers?

Yes. I have a great relationship with her teachers and have had it for the last 15 years since my brothers and sisters also studied here. Manant also has great bonding with her teachers, especially Kiran Sharma ma’am. She is a great teacher with a lot of patience. The best part is that if a student has not understood a topic, she will repeat it until the child understands it properly.

What is the best part of Apeejay?

First, it has great teachers. There have been times when I sent a text at 10 pm to Manant’s class teacher and I got a reply. Second, the principal is very good. Most schools don’t share contact details but there is no such issues here. Three, they have a meal plan for the young students. Most kids are fussy eaters, but this school insists that we pack all kinds of food for tiffin and kids eat it. The school is helping kids develop good eating habits.
