This engineering school conducts boot camp on data analysis

Data Science is currently booming, and the demand for skilled professionals has also grown significantly. Even people from non-technical backgrounds are switching their career to pursue Data Science courses. This is because data is one of the crucial features of every organisation as it helps business leaders to make decisions based on statistical numbers, facts, and trends. Therefore, the School of Engineering and Technology (SOET) of Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram in collaboration with BookMyShiksha, an IT Training Company, organised a Bootcamp on Data Science. 

The programme started with welcoming of Mr Gaurav Rajput, Trainer and Expert on Data Analytics at BookMyShiksha, by Dr Garima Sharma, Assistant Professor at SOET, during which she said, “This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to get a chance to learn about Data Science from an expert like Mr. Rajput. He has been in this field for more than 6 years. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge and expertise with young and aspiring students like you, who are eager to learn about Data Science.”

Following which, Mr. Rajput began with a brief explanation of what python is, why it is used, its basic syntax, libraries used along with its core and advanced topics. He also briefed about Data Science, its types and methods, data extraction, data analytics, machine learning with its types along with its application and usage in python. He also included a practical session on ‘House Price Prediction’ using python which would help the students to know and work on a real-life project that involves predicting the prices of houses based on various factors like location, area, number of rooms, and market trends using Jupyter software.

Expressing her views on attending the session, Grace Jemima, a first-year student of B Tech CSE said, “The workshop started with a discussion of the fundamentals of data science and how to use Python to manage it. We were taught about machine learning, data analytics, data extraction, and how to handle it with Python using Jupyter software. Mr. Gaurav Rajput described how data science allows us to efficiently understand massive amounts of data from multiple sources and derive valuable insights to make better decisions. It was followed by a quiz to see how much we understood and learned from it. We had a great time learning during the session.”

Another B Tech student Vishal Rajput said, “It was a great workshop! It began with the introduction on the topic. We got to know about how data analysis is an important field nowadays. We also studied python programming on a jupyter notebook as well as learnt some of the libraries in python.” 

The engaging session concluded with a quiz competition for the students.
