Apeejay School, Faridabad Sector-15 recently held a three-day Alumni Cricket League (ASFACL) at Lord’s Cricket Ground, Greater Faridabad. The event was an opportunity for its illustrious alumni to join hands and play the sport.

Through the cricket matches, the school not only strengthened its alumni relations but also provided a platform for its current students to interact with their role models. Additionally, during the event, alumni met their former teachers and staff members and felt nostalgic about their school days.

The atmosphere of positivity was nothing less than contagious on the first day itself. The venue was abuzz with alumni, students, parents and grandparents. All the players were divided into seven teams: Mavericks, White Wizards, Royal Tigers, Challengers 11, Sons of Pitches, Warhawks and Apeejay 11.

The Chief Guest for the inaugural match was Inspector Neha Rathi, an international wrestler who has represented India more than 35 times. She is also the recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award for excellence in games and sports. The inaugural match was played between a select team of alumni (ASFA 11) and the current students of the school (Apeejay 11). The alumni team won the match.

Over the next few days, other matches were conducted. Banpreet Bindra, a businessman and 2010 batch alumni organised the event along with the school’s management. He says, “Apeejay has been integral to my growth and development. Therefore, through this tournament, I tried to re-start the Cricket League after 7-8 years in the school. The Principal, teachers and staff were extremely supportive of my endeavours. On the main day, nearly 200 alumni were involved in the matches. In the coming year, I envision to take this initiative to a larger scale by inviting more sports players, Apeejayites and sister-schools.”

At the closing for the final day, Alokit was adjudged ‘The Best Batsman’ of the tournament. Prithvi was awarded ‘The Best Bowler’ and Krishan Vij was awarded ‘The Best Fielder’. Alokit also won ‘The Player of the Tournament’ and team Challengers 11 was announced the winner of the Cricket League. The spectators watched the matches and encouraged the participating teams.

School’s Principal, Mrs. Anita Yadav expressed her gratitude to all the alumni for being part of ASFACL. She further emphasised that many more matches should be played in the near future. She also urged the alumni to be in touch with the school.

“The ASFACL 2022 saw the celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, passion and success of more than 200 alumni who portrayed the ethos and values of Apeejay Education. They inspired the spectators, competed for the winning trophy and won gleaming medals.”
