India commemorates ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ each year on October 31. Introduced by the Government of India in 2014, the day is a special occasion to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Former Deputy Prime Minister of India, who played a major role in the political integration of the nation.

Echoing the slogan, ‘Togetherness leads to harmony, harmony leads to peace’, the school celebrated the day with massive spirit and enthusiasm. The official ceremony began with a special assembly followed by a prayer dedicated to the unity and strength of citizens.

During the event, it was taught to the students that unity removes fear and provides huge strength to face our problems. The school further encouraged them to learn from the former minister’s body of work, life and dedication.

A pledge to promote ‘rashtriya ekta’ was administered by Ms. Priya Rana, a Social Science teacher in the school. The school’s Principal, Ms. Sangeeta Nistandra, teachers and students swore whole-heartedly to the message: ‘I dedicate myself to preserving the unity, integrity, and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among my fellow countrymen. I take this pledge in the spirit of the unification of my country which was made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. I also solemnly resolve to make my own contribution to ensure the internal security of my country.’

Addressing the students, Ms. Nistandra said, “Students must work on their inherent strength that is required for the progress of the nation. Develop resilience to withstand and fight any outside threats to the country.” She advised them to further continue with the secular spirit for the security, unity and integrity of the nation. Finally, she flagged off the ‘Unity Run’ for students who ran to stress upon the message.

“Apeejay upholds the principle of ‘Unity in Diversity’. It also personifies our endeavour towards man-making and nation-building.”
