Aaye Haalo! A deep voice accompanies the drumbeat as it speeds up after starting out slowly. 100 pairs of feet leap up at the crescendo, tearing the air with the sound of sticks slamming into one another. Each dancer have a gigantic grin on their face and colourful skirts that billow as they clap, pirouette and sway non-stop all day long. Yes, it’s time to get the colourful ghagra-cholis and kurtas out of the closet and attend the dandiya celebrations.

Rotaract Club of Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram (ASUG) also organised  a Charity Dandiya Event- “SHUBHAARAMBH” in the college campus to seek the blessings of Maa Durga on the auspicious occasion of Navratri.

The event started with the lighting of the lamp by hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj S. Dhankar along with other dignitaries such as Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal,  Dean at School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Prof. Ananda Padhan, Head of Education School, Dr. Vijay Kumar, NSS Programme Coordinator and Coordinator of Rotaract Club of ASUG.

This was followed by aarti of Maa Durga that was performed by all the staff and students present there. Afterwards a Ganesh Vandana was done by Rtr. Vaishnavi of School of Biosciences through classical dance form Bhartnatyam. Following which, a Garba song “nagande sang dhol baje…” was also sung by Rtr. Dashmeet Kaur of School of Management Sciences in her melodious voice.

Addressing students, Prof. Dhankar congratulated the Rotaract Club of ASU Gurugram for organising the very first Dandiya event at the University. He said that music is the soul of life and holistic education is incomplete without the interest of students in some form of dance and music. This has been an inherent as well as integral part of Liberal Arts approach of Apeejay Stya University.

The day saw handsome boys and pretty girls dancing in separate circles to Gujarati folk music. It gave a chance to forget the world and just follow the footsteps of one’s heart. Right leg forward then left leg forward and go round and round while clapping hands for four counts – the traditional garba dance which each participant experienced.

Speaking about this amazing event, Rtr. Archita Rath, President, RaCASUG said, “Happy Navratri. It was our pleasure to organise “SHUBHAARAMBH”. As rightly said, ideas are nothing until and unless they are executed. It makes me so happy that my team and I could execute the exact plan. It’s almost like a dream come true, leaving people filled with lots of memories for lifetime. I would also like to extend my gratitude to all my team members who worked so hard since past few days and finally made today’s event a huge success. Also, thank you so much Professor Dr. Vijay Kumar for always supporting, mentoring and guiding all of us.”

Rtr. Vibhuti Verma, Secretary, RaCASUG also shared, “The event was a massive success where people from different departments came together to celebrate the Dandiya festival. The celebrations were accompanied by special performances by Rtr. Vaibhavi and Rtr. Dashmeet Kaur. I really felt overwhelmed after reading the feedbacks for “SHUBHAARAMBH”. It seemed so unreal to have been said, we pulled through the biggest event of the tenure. Not going to lie, it seemed almost impossible for a moment, but I am so grateful for the most supportive team anybody could ever ask for. All credit goes to my organising team and ofcourse the participants for making the hard work worth it.”

In addition, Rtr. Anshika Goel said, “It was an amazing event organised by the team. We had a lot of fun. It was literally the first event in college where I had the best enjoyment ever. I feel we should organise more such events in order to ensure timely rejuvenation and recreation. Kudos to us!”
