Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, organised a free skill enhancement class on “Beauty and Skincare” for class XII students in the city. The classes were conducted by Meenal Sandhu, head of the Department of Fashion Makeover, ACFA, whose insights intrigued curious learners.

The professor taught students ways and tips to keep their hair and skin healthy. She emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, which, in turn, enhances one’s beauty. She said glowing skin and healthy hair are not just the result of beauty products and advised students to eat nutritious food and exercise daily.

The professor also told students about the benefits of a good sleep cycle and a stress-free life, all of which reflect on one’s appearance.

The ACFA professor warned students against using any cosmetics without ensuring they suit their skin and hair type. She also shared with them the right technique to use cosmetic products. She demonstrated the step-by-step process of cleansing, toning, moisturising, and protection (CTMP), which is a must-routine for healthy skin. It begins with cleansing the face with a gentle face wash and water, followed by applying an alcohol-free toner to hydrate the skin. The next step is to moisturise the skin to keep it supple. The final step is to apply sunscreen irrespective of whether you are stepping out or not.

When it comes to hair, one must take constant care, she said. Avoid using the same shampoo or hair oil for a long period. Keep changing hair products from time to time.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the interactive session. They learnt many interesting facts about hair and skincare and were excited to try out the process themselves. “The session was very good. Most important is that students enjoyed the session and learnt about skin, hair, and makeup. After attending the session, many girls have become conscious of their skincare routine, which they were either ignoring or unaware of. Healthy skin gets better with a healthy diet and good eating habits. The students were advised to avoid junk food and eat balanced, nutritious meals.
