REWIND 2023 – Significant Achievements for India

The year 2023 marked a momentous chapter in India’s growth story, showcasing the nation’s capabilities and achievements on the global stage. Here are four milestones that India accomplished in 2023:

#1 SPACE EXPLORATION India achieved a historic feat by successfully landing Chandrayaan 3, becoming the first nation to reach the lunar south pole. The rover Pragyan confirmed the presence of calcium and tungsten on the moon, while the lander explored the origins of the moon, determining that it formed after a protoplanet named Theia collided with Earth. Additionally, the Aditya-L1 solar probe is set to reach its destination, Lagrange point 1, by mid-January 2024, providing valuable insights into solar phenomena like coronal mass ejections (CMEs).

#2 SPORTS TOURNAMENTS India exceeded expectations by securing a record-breaking 107 medals in the Asian Cup – 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze. Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra clinched a gold at the World Championship in 2023. At just 18 years old, Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa made history by reaching the title clash of the prestigious FIDE World Cup final. India also triumphed in 111 events at the Asian Para Games.

#3 THE G20 SUMMIT The G20 summit, held in New Delhi in August, brought together the world’s most significant economies, enhancing India’s global positioning. Key topics addressed included water shortage, climate change, global pandemic recovery, hunger, intercontinental bridges, and alternatives for fossil fuels.

#4 THE WOMEN’S RESERVATION BILL A groundbreaking achievement, the Women’s Reservation Bill mandates one-third of seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to be allocated to women from these communities. The bill, a testament to the prolonged struggle for women’s rights, introduces a system of rotation for reserved seats in different elections, aiming to create a more just and equitable society.
